Septarian Pendant Approx. 2 x 2 1//2 inches |
A septarian is essentially a piece of fossilized
mudball. A more proper term is concretion. Cutting inside some of them
reveals intricate patterning, apparently caused by mineralization of
shrinkage cracks created as the concretions dried out. The effect can be
quite beautiful. I obtained these septarians from a shop in
Philipsburg, Montana. I'm not sure where they actually were found. The
septarians were cut in half so I could see what was inside them. I
continued to cut slices and ground and polished them before I set them
in the settings you see.
Septarian is said to give you
confidence, especially in public speaking. It is known as a grounding
stone, associated with the root Chakra, and it is believed to impart
self confidence, patience and tolerance. Septarian is valued as an
excellent centering stone for meditation.
Septarians
are sometimes called dragon stone because of a legend that tells how
when dragons died out, they fell into the sea and their bodies turned to
stone. The septarians were thought to be the scales of the dragons.

Putting final touches on this Septarian necklace |
The stone pictured here is approximately 2 by 2 1/2
inches across. It is set within a brass ring and held in place with
sterling silver prongs. The metal parts are coated in a thin clear
lacquer to keep everything bright and shiny. The necklace comes with a
16 inch cord, fastened by means of a knot and loop.
As
with all of my jewelry, you can try the piece for 30 days and return it
if you decide it's not right for you. Price is $70. For mailing
destinations outside the US, there is a fee for additional postage and
insurance. If you wish to order, please
