Serpentine and Double Filigree Pendant $150

This necklace features a disk of serpentine that I found in the Octoraro Creek in southeastern Pennsylvania. It is surrounded by a double argentium filigree. The entire piece was handmade by me, from creek bed to finished pendant.

The filigree is hand pieced and fused argentium wire. This is an alloy of silver that has a touch of germanium in it resulting in a slightly lower melting point than sterling, a wonderfully high resistance to tarnishing.

Used locally as a building stone, beautiful green serpentine is also reputed to have powerful metaphysical properties. These include, awakening kundalini energies, helping with problems of the heart and lungs, opening doors to wisdom, assisting in astral travel, opening psychic energy, and regaining memories of past lives. Kundalini is purported to be a female energy that resides at the base of the spine. When it is awakened by means of meditation and laying of stones upon the body, it rises around and up the spine. It is said that the rising kundalini can cause a powerful effect upon the body, and one can experience intense sensations that include exhilaration, awakening, enlightenment, and sexual arousal. Some have described the feeling of a hot fire rising up from around the base of the spine. Tradition holds that serpentine is useful in facilitating the kundalini awakening.
