Cape May Diamond Faceted Pendant $150

Cape May Diamond Pendant

The southern tip of New Jersey juts out into the Atlantic at the mouth of the Delaware Bay at a place called Cape May. Quartz pebbles wash up on the beaches there after washing and tumbling down the Delaware River from some unknown source.

Geologists believe the pebbles may have taken as long as 1000 years to complete their journey. They arrive on the beaches smoothed, rounded and polished to a frosty finish, and these are known as Cape May Diamonds.

The Kechemeche people, Native Americans who lived in this region before it was settled by Europeans, used the stones as gifts and for trade with other native people. It was believed that a stone could convey wealth and abundance upon its holder.

I found this particular Cape May Diamond at Sunset Beach in Cape May. It is highlighted by many interesting inclusions inside the stone. I faceted it in a rectangular "emerald" style.

Four prongs hold it in its criss-cross setting of soldered argentium, a sterling silver alloy prized for its resistance to tarnishing. The pendant comes with an 18 inch sterling silver chain. You can order this, or any of my jewelry safe in the knowledge you can return it if you decide it just isn't right for you. Try it for 30 days and decide then whether to keep it or return it. Price is $150
